Yoga Practice Guidelines
- First and foremost, leave all of your expectations and judgments (of yourself and others) at the door. We are striving to respect diversity in all beings. You do not have to be flexible to practice yoga. Yoga is about you and your body. We promote the uniqueness of each individual and encourage each student to begin where they are, regardless of what anyone else is doing.
- Honor the beginning of each class by arriving early enough to sign in and give yourself time to get settled (about 10 minutes).
- If you absolutely have to leave before the end of practice, take an early savasana (or final relaxation), this will indicate your early departure to the teacher. Please depart prior to – not during – the group's Savasana or final meditation.
- Turn off cell phones and pagers before coming to class.
- In respect of the yogic tradition, please remove shoes before walking in the studio (storage is provided for your personal items).
- Please remove socks and practice barefoot on sticky mats to prevent injury.
- Try not to eat at least 2 hours before class. You will enjoy your practice much more!
- Comfortable, unrestrictive yet not too loose clothing is ideal for maximizing mobility during a class and allowing the teacher to check for alignment and safety.
- Please avoid wearing strong perfumes and colognes to class.
- Yoga mats and props are available at the studio for use. However, if you have a regular practice, we encourage you to bring and use your own mat.
- Please advise the teacher of any special health conditions, injuries, or pregnancy at the beginning of class, as certain postures may be more appropriate.
- Please be mindful of the designated level of the class, for yourself and when inviting friends and family to practice with you. Level I-II classes and above will require a certain degree of basic understanding of the poses, as well as a certain level of stamina and strength. A class designated level I-II or above is not intended to be a first-ever yoga class.
- We recommend avoiding inverted postures during the first few days of menstruation. Please ask an instructor for advice and alternatives.
- Once the class has ended, feel free to stay in the studio a while and enjoy the peace and balance brought forth by your practice. Our back lounge is open for social interactions.
